Fallout is a series of post-apocalyptic role-playing video games set during the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd centuries. The atompunk retrofuturistic setting and art work are influenced by the post-war culture of 1950s United States, with its combination of hope for the promises of technology and the lurking fear of nuclear annihilation. In the years after the Great War, the United States has devolved into a post-apocalyptic environment commonly dubbed "the Wasteland". The Great War and subsequent nuclear Armageddon had severely depopulated the country, leaving large expanses of property decaying from neglect. With a large portion of the country's infrastructure in ruins, basic necessities are scarce; as such barter is the common method of exchange, with bottle caps of a fictional soda company named Nuka-Cola providing a more conventional form of currency.
Inspired by vintage Coca-Cola posters, I created a set of four promotional posters for Nuka-Cola’s beverage variants, including the original Nuka-Cola flavor, Nuka-Orange, Nuka-Quantum, and Nuka-Quartz, centered around the bottle caps that became so prevalent following the Great War and nuclear fallout. I created the bottle cap graphics in Adobe Illustrator and then used Adobe Photoshop to add the worn and distressed textures that suggest a vintage and aged quality to the posters.
